Welcome to ASEIC's first ever eco-innovation forum!

ASEIC was created in 2011 to promote eco-innovation for small and medium sized enterprises in ASEM member countries. To serve as a platform for SMEs, government agencies, and the academe to exchange knowledge and experience in green growth across Asia and Europe, ASEIC is holding the "Global Forum on Eco-Innovation" every year.

Entrepreneurs, professors, government officials and experts from the United Nations and other international organizations will convene to discuss some of the most salient green growth policies and best practices in Asia and Europe to fully tap the role of SMEs in taking advantage of emerging green growth opportunities.

This year's forum with the theme, "From Policy to Action" will be held on 18 November 2011 at Novotel Ambassador Gangnam, Seoul.

Program Objectives

The forum seeks to achieve the following goals:

- To gain deeper understanding on the status of implementation of eco-innovation policies for SMEs in Asia and Europe, taking into account the recently implemented olicies and best practices as well as the concomitant challenges
- To tackle the practical use of eco-innovative technologies at the private and public sector;
- To discuss the prevailing global perspective on eco-innovation by delving into actual case studies about the execution of eco-innovation policy across regions; and
- To identify prospects and challenges, setting the path toward a green growth-oriented development model.

Participants

The forum invites government representatives from ASEM Member Countries, SMEs with a green corporate strategy, interested organizations or institutions, and individuals with strong commitment to sustainable development.

Agenda

ASEIC Global Forum on Eco-Innovation: "From Policy to Action" The European Commission defines Eco-Innovation as: "Eco-Innovative products, techniques, services or processes which aim at the prevention or the reduction of environmental impacts or which contribute to the optimal use of resources." SMEs are regarded as the main engine of innovation and economic growth and expected to play a critical role in promoting green growth.

Serious challenges, however, hinder the success of SMEs. The most common barriers are the lack of access to finance or venture capital, inadequate information, poor business management skills, and the protection of intellectual property rights. Against this backdrop, the forum intends to empower SMEs to contribute significantly in reviving the global economy while securing environmental sustainability.
