[Project Announcement] 2013 ASEM Eco-Innovation Consulting Project for SMEs
10 Jun 2013

2013 ASEM Eco-Innovation Consulting Project for SMEs

Against the backdrop of sustainable development, eco-innovation has emerged as a significant factor for success. As a global green trend, eco-innovation addresses products, services, processes and management methods that can benefit the environment and human well-being. However, it is not just the environment that stands to gain from eco-innovation. The world market for environmental products, services and technologies is growing every year given the emergence of an array of environmental rules and regulations imposed by governments and international organizations. In other words, there are new business opportunities especially for small and medium enterprises if they incorporate eco-innovation into their business strategies.

Serving as an international platform, the ASEIC mobilizes green technologies and expertise for helping SMEs in ASEM member countries to move towards a green economy. Over the past two years, the institution has provided eco-innovation consulting services to 65 independent SMEs in Asian countries in an effort to strengthen the green competitiveness of SMEs by disseminating and utilizing green management and technology. This year, the ASEIC expands this project, which is active from May to November 2013, into 5 ASEM member states, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Philippines, providing consulting services for total 40 SMEs.

Key elements of the project include:

1.   Performing a diagnostic study for each participating SMEs based on eco-innovation perspective
2.   Providing personalized assistance and expert recommendations
3.   Workshops and seminars with local and international experts and partners
4.    Comprehensive eco-innovation guidelines to be implemented in the long term

Eco-innovation workshop and initial environmental assessment for participating SMEs will be followed in June. For more information on this project, please contact project manager at info@aseic.org
