Co-organizing of "Sustainable Development Assessment Seminar" in SingaporeThe seminar titled “Sustainable Development Assessment: Towards Measurable Goals” will be held in Singapore on 21-22 November 2012 in cooperation with the Asia-Europe Foundation, an institution inaugurated by ASEM, which brought together more than 15,000 people from Asia and Europe and implemented over 500 projects to strengthen Asia-Europe relations for the last 14 years.
The seminar will bring together 50 representatives from international organizations, environmental think-tanks and environmental governance experts from organizations in Asia and Europe. The seminar will focus on the Post-Rio discussions on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their indicators associated with the Asia-Europe Environment Forum programme. It will offer the information about the status of the SDGs related initiatives and an overview of existing indicators that could be used to measure sustainable development.
The primary objective of the seminar is to launch a three-year-programme (2013-2015), which will put emphasis on creating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and empower countries’ leadership towards a bottom-up approach. The seminar will mainly target small and medium enterprises (SMEs), policy makers, non-governmental organizations and other relevant organizations including UN agencies.
ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center (ASEIC) is the co-organizing partner for the Asia-Europe Environment Forum which is an initiative of the Asia-Europe Foundation, the Hanns Seidel Foundation, the Institute of Global Environmental Strategies, the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) with the United Nations Environment Programme.
