The 11th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM11) was held in Ulaanbaatar

The 11th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM11) was held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from July 15 to 16 2016, under the theme of “20 Years of ASEM: Partnership for the Future through Connectivity”. Government leaders and high-level representatives of the 51 European and Asian countries participated in this meeting, as well as the President of the European Council, the President of the European Commission and the Secretary-General of ASEAN, the Association of South-East Asian Nations. The Summit meeting was hosted and chaired by Mr. Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, the President of Mongolia. Ms. Park Geun-hye, the President of the Republic of Korea, attended as well in person with a large delegation of Korean business leaders, approximately 100 firms, mostly SMEs. 
First launched in 1996, while celebrating its 20th Anniversary, leaders reviewed their progress and achievements since the very first meeting and set the course for further enhancement and evolution of the inter-regional process in the next decade.
 
In the chair’s statement, leaders acknowledged the role of ASEIC, the ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Centre, in supporting sustainable development in Asia and Europe through disseminating and sharing information, knowledge and best practices on eco-innovation and promoting technological cooperation among MSMEs. Specially, ASEIC had reported their result in holding the ASEM working Group Seminar on SME’s Eco-Innovation three times, and re-endorsed their future plans on holding the ASEM Working Group Seminars from year 2016 to 2018. Also, Asia-Europe SMEs Creative Eco-Innovation Open Platform, a newly proposed initiative by 13 member states including ASEIC, was successfully endorsed as well. This is a collaborative platform for ASEM member states concerning Eco-innovation policy capacity building for governments, developing SME's eco-innovation competence and eco-innovation business advisory services for SMEs.
