Meet IDRC, the International Development Research Centre
On the 31st of May, ASEIC had a meeting with Dr. Arjan De Haan, the program leader at International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada.
IDRC is a Canadian Crown corporation established by an act of Parliament in 1970 to help developing countries to find solutions for their problems. IDRC encourages and supports researchers and innovators in those countries to find practical, long-term solutions for the social, economic, and environmental problems that their societies are facing. IDRC’s goal is to find the ways to reduce poverty and improve public health as well as to support innovation and protect the environment.
IDRC’s Supporting Inclusive Growth (SIG) program has just completed its first year with notable advancements in the implementation of its prospectus. SIG program is dedicated to find out how economic growth can increase economic opportunities for the poor and marginalized and reduce inequality while emphasizing the value of green growth, entrepreneurship and the role of SMEs.
SIG is implementing interesting programs worldwide including Green Indicators in SMEs in Latin American region sharing similar vision with ASEIC’s ASEM Eco-Innovation Index (ASEI) that aims to promote eco-innovation of SMEs in ASEM member countries. SIG program also supports an inclusive growth project in Peru and Argentina which can be learned and shared with ASEIC’s Inclusive eco-innovation project.
Throughout the meeting, Dr. De Haan showed his commitment towards international development all over the world. He was willing to share opportunities and build up relationship with ASEIC under the ultimate vision of sustainable development.
